ASSE 6040 Certification requires a minimum 24-hour training course which provides general knowledge of medical gas and vacuum systems.  This standard provides minimum criteria, identified by an industry consensus, for Medical Gas Systems, and to ensure compliance with the ASSE 6001 Standard.  ASSE 6040 credentialed persons shall be able to identify and show general, product performance, products installation, system, component, testing and documentation knowledge of medical gas and vacuum systems.  In addition, this individual shall be able to identify and describe actions that take place prior to and after installation and testing of a medical gas and vacuum systems.

Exam will be 100 questions with a minimum passing score of 75% and will cover material from the ASSE 6040 and applicable sections of NFPA 99 newest edition.  

Every three years individuals shall be recertified through a minimum 4-hour training course of the latest edition of NFPA 99 followed by a written exam that shall be a minimum of 25 questions with a minimum passing score of 75%.

All candidates for the ASSE 6040 certification shall be employed or contracted by a healthcare facility or be actively engaged in working with medical gas systems and shall have one (1) year minimum experience in the maintenance of the medical gas and vacuum systems.
